Truthful Acting Through Song
Who’s it for: Musical Theatre Actors looking to find a sense of truth within their performance along with the ability to silence their 'inner critic'. NB All of our training is for professional actors and those seriously working towards their acting career. If in doubt as to whether you are eligible, please get in touch (firstname.lastname@example.org).
Over the last 10 years, Musical Theatre has taken steps towards realism as contemporary composers have evolved. This has led to more traditionally trained 'actors' becoming prevalent within the musical theatre industry. See Cynthia Erivo (RADA) and Michael Xavier (Manchester School of Theatre) as examples.
These days Musical Theatre artists need to prioritise their Acting craft more than ever. This unique course aims to give you a introduction and grounding in Meisner's famous repetition exercise, enabling you to 'live truthfully' and sing without fear.
The Meisner Technique was developed by Sanford Meisner in New York, it serves to free up Actors from the shackles of their 'inner critic' and create impulsive, emotionally free performers.
You will need to prepare 2 songs for performance. Please bring sheet music. Ideally these songs will have a clear target (somebody the song is directed to- for example Not a Day Goes By from Merrily We Roll Along) as opposed to a soliloquy style song (for example - I Dreamed a Dream) though this is not a strict requirement.
Adam Stadius is Head of Musical Theatre at SLP College in Leeds, having trained graduates from RADA, Mountview, LAMDA, Arts Ed, London School of Musical Theatre and more. Adam has spent years refining his teaching of the Meisner Technique for Musical Theatre performers, with a number of Musical Theatre artists now appearing in West End and touring productions including The Lion King (Lyceum), Assassins (Menier Chocolate Factory) and Sweeney Todd (Adelphi). For more info on Adam, his approach to the Meisner Technique and teaching, check out his bio here.
Class sizes are deliberately kept small so you receive focused learning and individualised attention.
"The insights I gained on Both Feet's Meisner course are helping me to make some really interesting discoveries in the rehearsal room. It's incredible training for all actors at all stages of their professional career."
