Our main training programme runs in Leeds and Manchester but we also run stand alone courses in other cities. If you'd like us to come to your city, email us on email@example.com. See below to understand the different elements of our training programme and the calendar for all dates and booking.
Whilst we believe every actor would benefit from training in The Meisner Technique you’ll also find it lies comfortably with (and often enhances) most other training you’ve done or are currently practicing.
Class sizes are deliberately kept small so you receive focused learning and individualised attention.
See full calendar here for all dates and to book.
Our FREE taster classes give us a chance to meet each other, to see if we're a good fit. You will be introduced to the Meisner Technique and the ethos behind our work. There will be opportunities for each participant to try out exercises, watch some of our current students and gain an overview of the technique and our training programme. Come and have a peek and see if this technique is for you!
We cover all of Meisner's exercises in two parts:
Over the two days you'll gain a great insight into to the technique introducing you to Meisner's first few exercises including the beginnings of Meisner’s famous repetition exercise. You'll have new tools to take away with you and take your first steps towards what Meisner calls ‘living truthfully’. If you find the technique is right for you and your development as a professional actor and theatre/film maker then you should consider signing up to our Core course.
NB There are only a few of these courses throughout the year.
The Core introduces our actors to the full breadth of Meisner’s fundamental exercises, truly allowing students to ‘live truthfully under a given set of circumstances’. Over 6 intensive days (48hours) we will introduce exercises that will fundamentally change an actor’s approach to their work and build a solid foundation of skills that is flexible enough to be applied to any challenge an actor faces, be it stage or screen. Our core training seeks to free up an actor’s instincts to create truthful and compelling work.
NB There are only 2-3 of these courses throughout the year.
Our ongoing training Weekly Class Cycles
Just like a musician needs to practice their scales and an Olympian needs to maintain their fitness, an actor too needs to workout. We understand how unpredictable an actor's life can be so we’ve designed our weekly classes to run on a four week cycle specifically to fit with you.
NB You must have completed the Introductory Weekend and The Core Intensive to be eligible to attend the weekly classes with us.
Meisner believed it took 14 years to truly call oneself an actor and we are no different. Whilst our 6 day Core course seeks to introduce you to the fundamental exercises of the Meisner Technique, our weekly technical classes work on enhancing your skills and going deeper into the work. These classes are your opportunity to practice and refine your craft with other Meisner-trained actors.
NB You can sign up at any time, space permitting.
For those of you wishing to work on your application of the technique to text, our scene study class is for you. Over a 4-week repeating cycle you will apply the tools developed in our core and technique classes to a scene selected for you. You will refine your skills in cold-reading, text analysis and performance.
NB You can only start at the beginning of a cycle (first Sunday of each month)
Meisner in Practice (returning later in 2018)
Meisner in Practice builds upon the foundations introduced through our Core Meisner Technique course. Set over 6 days, this course aims to deepen the repetition exercise to cover complex given circumstances whilst also practically applying the technique to a text in a rehearsal and working environment, including working with direction.
Meisner in Character (returning later in 2018)
Meisner and Character seeks to use the technique to create characters with truthful and compelling inner lives. We don't always get to play a character with the same impulses as ourselves so this part of the training explores the different physical possibilities we may come across in our work. We explore conditions such as physical impediments, conditions including intoxication or illness, imitations and more whilst applying them to a text.
We also run a selection of other courses which we believe are fundamental to creating a well rounded actor and useful for an actor's career including vocal techniques, movement techniques, acting for camera and casting workshops.
